Banning TikTok and WeChat in 45 Days, if Not sold by Chinese Parent Company, Trump Ordered title banner

On Thursday, President Donald Trump issued an order to ban the social media app TikTok and WeChat from serving across the US in 45 days if both the app are not sold by their Chinese-owned parent companies. 

 

Also, in an unprecedented announcement, Trump also spoke any deal would have to introduce “an abundant amount of money" proceeding to the US Treasury.

 

The order about halting TikTok within 45 days stated that "any transaction by any person, or with respect to any business which is obedient under the jurisdiction of the United States, with ByteDance Ltd which is the Chinese enterprise that retains the social media platform.

 

Just after circulating an order concerning to ban TikTok, Trump issued the same order for WeChat, a group chat app admitted by Tencent, again a Chinese based company. WeChat enables its users to give funds to each other, the order proclaims to ban financial transactions with Tencent. 

 

More clearly, the order affirms "any transaction that is relevant to WeChat by any person, or with respect to any resources, controlled under the jurisdiction of the United States, with Tencent Holdings Ltd, Shenzhen, China, or any subsidiary of that item, as recognized by the Secretary of Commerce (Secretary) under section 1(c) of this order."

 

TikTok’s spokesperson said in a statement "TikTok is embraced by 100 million Americans as it is a hub for entertainment, self-expression, and attachment". Thursday's order claims that TikTok "automatically seizes vast feed of data and information from its users," like location data, browsing & search histories that "approaches to support the Chinese Communist Party access to Americans' individual and exclusive information, potentially permitting China to trace the locations of Federal workers and contractors, develop dossiers of personal information for blackmail, and manage corporate espionage."(Source)
