Amazon's new policy will permit employees to work remotely for an indefinite time period

Amazon.com, Inc., an American multinational technology company which concentrates on cloud computing, e-commercial products and services, digital streaming and artificial intelligence. It is "one of the most influential economic and cultural forces in the world."

 

Its products include that of Kindle, Fire Tablet etc. and its services comprises Amazon Prime, Amazon Music, Amazon Web Services, Amazon Prime Video and others.

 

The Newest Policy

 

Previously, Amazon stated that most employees must be working in the office for at least three days a week, when offices shall be reopening from the month of January. But, it has recently established a new policy that would permit many tech companies as well as corporate employees to keep working remotely for an indefinite period of time.

 

The recent policy would be applied as long as employees travel to and from work, when it is required.

 

The new policy, which will be applicable for the approx. 60,000 workers in the Puget South region, bears a high probability of excavating a string of tension among South Lake Union corporate holders. This may make things complex for the future of the Seattle Office Market.

 

Amazon employees seemed bewildered enough to react to the situation this new policy posed and left it in the hands of "many teams" to wait and see if they gain approval to work on a remote basis.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy stated that the Directors are going to "determine with their senior leaders and teams" about the number of days this policy would be applicable for.

Amazon could have followed President Joe Biden's nationwide mandate that declared that companies with more than 100 employees would have to be either vaccinated or tested on a daily basis, had it not been for the constant fear of Amazon warehouse workers resigning in protest.

Amazon's perspective in terms of its return-to-work policy resonates with other tech mammoths such as Microsoft which declared its postponement of office reopening for an uncertain time period as well as Google that expects 20 percent of its employees to telecommute full-time.

Amazon CEO has conveyed his gratitude via a blog post, towards all the Amazon employees "for their passion" who haven't been able to work during the pandemic.

 

This new policy may subside the expectations of the hair salons, coffee shops, restaurants, or any other small businesses, as TheSeattleTimes suggests, around Amazon's South Lake Union campus.  

 

This is so because the small businesses had been hoping high, that as soon as the office reopens, they would be able to rise, again in terms of its "foot traffic and revenues".

The co-owner of the Sea Creatures restaurant group, Jeremy Price stated that the restaurants have been experiencing the downs over the last two years and this time, they were really expecting "the return of workers to those towers as the light at the end of tunnel."
