To detect image anomalies, it becomes really difficult and an arduous task for one to narrow down the process, since the anomalies look almost similar like they should have. However, it falls under the category of data analysis and is introduced in that way in many industries.
Be it an anomaly or normal, a cell is a cell till one succeeds in identifying the abnormalities and in doing so, the process necessitates a "trained professional".
Nevertheless, Artificial Intelligence, with its phenomenal innovations and everlasting spirit, has proved to be efficient enough to venture into the Healthcare industry, making it easier for the healthcare professionals by refabricating the conventional techniques.

Detecting Abnormalities
Therefore, the scientists from Skoltech, Philips Research, and Goethe University Frankfurt have assisted a neural network to identify the abnormalities observed in medical images.
This would enable the healthcare professionals to look through a number of images if there are any kind of pathologies present in a short span of time.
The researchers reported that the normal case is superimposed with a "few anomalous examples" which end up demarcating the possibility of proving themselves to be different among themselves. Thus, it leaves no "well-defined class for abnormalities."
As reported by TechXplore, Dylov's team analysed four datasets of chest X-rays and breast cancer histology microscopy images in order to ensure if the technique proves to be indifferent in all of the imaging devices.

However, the accuracy and benefits gained in the process varied in terms of which dataset it is being acted upon. On the other hand, the fresh approach overpowered all the previous conventional techniques by concentrating more on how the characteristics created an impact in the decision-making of human annotators.
As Dylov explains, the team has employed the proposed method of what is referred to as "weakly supervised training". Two defined classes were unapproachable, this process was furthered by treating it with supervised models.
Since no anomalies were detected at this point of time which is very odd as a clinical practice, the team procured some anomalous images and showcased them to the network in order to obtain the arsenal of the previously mentioned, weakly supervised methods.

And this process led the researchers towards a significant pathway, as Dylov states that even one anomalous scan "for every 200 normal ones goes a long way…"
Irina Fedulova, the study co-author and the director of the Philips Research branch in Moscow stated that the Philips-Skoltech partnership will resolve complications like this one surrounding the healthcare industry.
This fresh method would augment the arduous of detecting anomalies for healthcare professionals in general and radiologists and histopathologists in particular.
As the authors describe their method- Deep Perceptual Autoencoders can be put to use in a varied spectrum of medical scans. It is sensitive to minute abnormalities and employs few anomalous references.As reported in IEEE Access, this method accelerates the process of medical imaging and as a result, it detects anomalous pathologies faster as compared to that of general-purpose solutions.
