“The highest form of human intelligence is to observe yourself without judgment.” - Jiddu Krishnamurty

We, humans, are considered one of the most intelligent animals in the animal kingdom. That is true, we can communicate easily, we can code, we dance, we cry, we solve mathematical problems, and many more. But human intelligence comprises many things.

One can be a bookish intelligent person, whereas one could have an intelligence towards understanding emotions. If you have watched the show “Young Sheldon”, you’ll know exactly what I am talking about. Human intelligence is often measured in psychology through IQ scores obtained through IQ testing.

While IQ test results have a high degree of inter-test reliability and predict particular types of accomplishment very well, its construct validity as a comprehensive measure of human intellect is questioned. But still the IQ of a person can vary from person to person.

So let’s get into knowing more about human intelligence.

What is Human Intelligence?

Why are some students better athletes than others? Why are some kids better at arithmetic than others? Why are some youngsters better at drawing? The answer is quite simple and meaningful: because every kid has his or her own passions and abilities, which he or she learns at his or her own speed and in a unique style.

Human intelligence is a mental attribute that consists of the capacities to learn through experience, adjust to changes and new conditions, grasp and manage complex ideas, and influence one's environment using knowledge.

Almost all of the enthusiasm among intelligence investigators stems from their attempts to define just what knowledge is. In their definitions of intelligence, several scientists have stressed different features.

Thorough knowledge of the brain mechanisms behind this universal mental capacity might have major personal and social implications. Structural and functional neuroimaging investigations have largely confirmed the existence of a frontoparietal network involved in intelligence.

This similar network has been discovered to underpin cognitive tasks including observation, short-term storage capacity, and language. This network's dispersed structure and participation in a variety of cognitive activities align well with the integrative character of intelligence.

Types of Human Intelligence

The study determines the presence of regions in the human brain that correlate to specific cognitive domains, which are all different and generally independent of one another.

Types of Human Intelligence

Well, in summation there may be many types of intelligence, but here we’ll discuss the three most important types of human intelligence first- (1) Intelligence Quotient, (2) Spiritual Quotient, and (3) Emotional Quotient.

  1. What is Intelligence Quotient?

The intelligence quotient (IQ) is a measure of a person's thinking capacity. In a nutshell, it is meant to assess how well someone can utilize facts and reasoning to answer questions or make predictions.

Short- and long-term memory is measured in IQ tests to begin to examine this. They also assess how quickly people can solve puzzles and recollect information they've heard.

Well, many famous scientists have been tested for their IQ and Stephen Hawking is one of them, who had an IQ approximately equal to 160. Now how do we score a person’s IQ?

Knowledge-based questions assess a person's knowledge of the world. For example, they can inquire as to whether individuals understand why it is vital to wash one's teeth before beginning the day.

What does art represent to you? What exactly does it mean to "hold" while trading? What is the distinction between a cold desert and a hot desert? These sorts of questions assess a person's knowledge of culturally significant topics.

Some are concerned with memory. Others assess what is known as fluid intelligence. That is a person's ability to solve an issue using logic and reason. For example, test participants may be required to determine how a form might seem in front of a mirror.

Not only these there are many other factors that are credible when it comes to calculating Intelligence Quotient.

  1. What is Spiritual Quotient?

Spirituality improves a person's ability to be creative, alert, and analytical. Spirituality can help to strengthen the power of intuition and awareness. It greatly aids in coping with and eradicating current problems like terrorism, self-centeredness, and a lack of humanity.

As it directly connects to a person's awareness and consciousness, the notion of Spiritual Quotient (SQ) is quickly developing as the next significant part of scientific inquiry.

SQ makes us more accountable to ourselves, our families, society, our surroundings, our country, and finally our cosmos. It assists us in connecting our own vision with the greater welfare of humanity. It makes us more modest in our outlook. It significantly diminishes our selfish intentions.

Now, why do we need a Spiritual Quotient? The solution is simple: we won't have time to think about these concerns unless we create time in our hectic daily schedules to make consistent progress in our spiritual path. Spirituality adds depth to a person's approach and viewpoint on living a more meaningful life.

It’s important for us to know how we should understand one’s SQ? Well, the answer is much simpler. It’s the addition of Intelligence Quotient and Emotional Quotient. We already talked about IQ. Now it’s time to look over what Emotional Quotient means when it comes to human intelligence.

  1. What is Emotional Quotient?

Emotional intelligence (EQ) is the capacity to understand, use, and control one's own emotions in constructive ways in order to reduce stress, communicate effectively, sympathize with others, overcome problems, and diffuse conflict. Emotional intelligence assists you in developing stronger connections, succeeding in school and at work, and achieving your professional and personal objectives.

As we all know, it is not the brightest individuals that are the most successful or satisfied in life. You've probably met folks who are intellectually smart yet socially incompetent and unsuccessful at jobs or in personal relationships. Yes, your IQ can help you get into college, but your EQ will help you handle your emotional stress when it comes to final examinations.

But how do we measure Emotional Quotient? Emotional intelligence may be measured in three ways: self-report, other-report, and ability assessments. The MEIS is an ability exam that we feel is the most accurate approach to assess Emotional Intelligence. Let's take a look at each of these strategies individually.

  1. The most prevalent method of measuring things like personality characteristics is self-report. Warmth, empathy, anxiousness, and other characteristics are examples of personality qualities.

  1. Then there’s Other Report. Why not ask others what they think of us since Emotional Intelligence is all about people skills? On the surface, this appears to be a respectable method of assessing emotional intelligence.

  1. Lastly, it’s the ability test. You take a typing test to find out if you can type. A typing exam does not ask you how quick you are or how fast you can type with a friend. It necessitates typing. Emotional Intelligence is a collection of abilities or skills. They may be measured in the same way that other talents or abilities are.

Conclusion

“It may be beyond the limits of human intelligence to understand how human intelligence works.”- Noam Chomsky

The amount of data that our brains can process is limited by human intellect. Human intelligence is defined by understanding, conflict resolution, and knowledge. Furthermore, there are broad individual disparities in the ability to reason, resolve issues, and learn, resulting in human differences in the overall ability to cope with difficult conditions.

So, it’s our human nature that makes us human. Now it’s up to us how we use our intelligence and in what way, because machines are already catching up with human intelligence. AI is one of the finest works of technology and let’s see where it goes in the near future.
