What is an NFT?

NFTs were released very recently in 2014, but it has gained huge popularity in this short period among crypto enthusiasts.

A Non-Fungible Token (NFT) is a digital asset that represents real-world components such as art, music, in-game commodities, and movies. They're frequently encoded with the same software as many other cryptos, and they're bought and exchanged online, often with the help of cryptocurrencies.

It has become a huge deal in the cryptocurrency industry and owning an NFT is flexed as a digital status. Crypto-native investors constantly search for the best and the most expensive NFT to invest their money in.

Investopedia says the overall market capitalization of the NFT universe was assessed to be $7 billion by the experts. A large portion of the money will be spent on the digital art industry.

Unique cryptographic tokens signed by artists have fetched tens of millions of dollars in pricing from investors. They've also developed a new ecology, which is filled with both existing and new gamers. The NFT has already attracted the attention of prestigious auction houses such as Christie's and Sotheby's. New ones have also acquired popularity, such as OpenSea and Nifty.

So, here we talk about the top 12 expensive NFTs available in the market. This can be useful for people who want to know more about these NFTs and want to invest in any of these.

According to Nifty Gateway, a popular NFT marketplace, the price was a record for an artwork sold publicly by a live artist.

The Merge was offered in an open edition (as opposed to a limited edition) from last Thursday through Saturday, according to barrons.com

Buyers may acquire any number of tokens for US$575, with the price increasing by US$25 every six hours. The tokens sold for a total of $91.8 million in the conclusion.

  1. Beeple-Everydays: The First 5000 Days: $69 million

Mike Winkelmann, also known as Beeple, is a stalwart in the NFT ecosystem today. And a major part of the credit for it goes to a work called Everdays: The First 5000 Days, which sold for $69 million. It's a 13-year collage that Winkelmann began working on in 2007 and will conclude in 2020.

Beeple's work is so high-quality and well-liked in the community that this project is effectively a collage of 5000 of his paintings. He committed to making one piece of art every day starting in 2007, and here is the outcome. Needless to say, the work was well worth it. (here)

  1. Beeple’s Human One: $28.9 Million

The sale of 'Human One' in November, Beeple's second appearance on our list, was the artist's second high-profile NFT and first foray into 'physical' NFTs.

  1. CryptoPunk: $11.75 Million

Sotheby's auctioned CryptoPunk 7523 for $11.75 million. CryptoPunk7523 is the most valuable avatar in the collection so far, except for CryptoPunk 9998, which was sold illegally for $530 million.

Many people still feel that CryptoPunks is nothing more than a passing trend on the Internet, but the principle underlying the project is far more important.

CryptoPunk appears to be little more than a collection of 8-bit digital figures with no actual purpose. People buy them and use them as profile photographs on social media platforms such as Twitter and messaging apps. They may also sell these on other sites, and their value continues to rise.

  1. Xcopy’s Right-click and Save As guy: $7.09 Million

In November, NFT artist Xcopy's Right-click and Save As person sold for $7.09 million. Snoop Dogg's NFT pseudonym 'Cozomo de Medici' purchased it through SuperRare. In September, the rapper paid $3.9 million for Xcopy's NFT, Some A******.

Xcopy is well-known in the NFT community for his digital compositions, which typically take the shape of visual loops and examine current conundrums such as "death, dystopia, and apathy." XCopy has sold almost 1,300 goods, according to his OpenSea page. (business insider)

  1. Beeple’s Crossroad: $6.6 Million

Beeple has made several dystopian art pieces ridiculing American presidential contenders such as Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, and Bernie Sanders, the most well-known of which is his Crossroads painting.

As written by screen rant, at Crossroads, there's a big baby that looks a lot like Trump, and his body is covered with graffiti that says things like "Loser."

A Twitter-themed bluebird sits on the figure's shoulder, while a clown emoji fills the speech bubble above it. Crossroads, a painting depicting the conclusion of the 2020 Presidential election, was sold for $6.6 million via Nifty Gateway.

  1. Ringers 109: $6.93 Million

During the first week of October this year, Art Blocks' Ringers #109 sold for $6.93 million, making it the most expensive Art Block ever sold. The dash of red colour, which appears in just 0.3 per cent of the pieces, distinguishes the Art Block.

  1. Ocean Front: $6 Million

Beeple (a term that will feature several times on this list) is another significant name in the NFT field, alongside Larva Labs.

Beeple's has sold a variety of world-record-breaking NFTs, including the Ocean Front NFT seen above. Ocean Front was sold at auction for a tidy $6 million, although it isn't even the most expensive Beeple production.

Ocean Front is a wonderfully beautiful piece of art, even if it didn't sell for the most money. It depicts a wooden building floating in the middle of the ocean with several cargo containers and campers/RVs on it. A big tree and two red mushrooms may be seen at the very top.

  1. The Internet’s source code: $5.7 Million

As the internet enters its third generation, its creator is taking notice. Tim Berners Lee, the guy who founded the World Wide Web, sold the Internet's source code for a stunning $5.7 million at a Sotheby's auction house on June 30.

The NFT includes time-stamped files for the source code for the web, an autographed picture by Lee, an animated film depicting the code's author, and a letter from Sir Lee himself. Lee's work with the NFT drew a lot of attention and demonstrated to sceptics that there was more to this sector than meets the eye.

  1. Stay Free: $5.4 Million

Lee isn't the only well-known Internet figure who is interested. Edward Snowden, the world's most renowned whistleblower, has spoken out in favour of web3 and crypto on several occasions.

Snowden sold his first NFT for $5.4 million in April, which was a picture of his face overlaying court records from the lawsuit that arose when he disclosed the National Security Agency's (NSA) spying operations against its citizens.

The proceeds from the sale were donated to the Freedom of the Press Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving press freedom.

  1. Replicator: $4.1 Million

Mad Dog Jones became the most expensive living artist in Canada in April 2021. How? Through the Phillips auction house, he sold his Replicator NFT for a whopping $4.1 million.

With the NFT, a lot is going on. The photo depicts a photocopier that you'd find in any office building. It looks to be kept in a quite tiny flat. On the floor, there's a cat and an ornate rug, as well as a drafting table, a stock ticker, and a nighttime view of a large metropolis.

  1. Doge: $4 Million

The notion of an NFT is frequently odd to novices and those unfamiliar with the ever-evolving crypto market, and the fact that purchasers are paying as much as four million dollars for a meme doesn't help matters.

There are many things most people don't know about cryptocurrency, but considering how popular it is growing, it may be worthwhile to grasp the basics.
